The Hawaii marketing calendar, month by month.

Island seasons, state holidays and big events mapped to what to publish, promote and budget, with a planner for this month.

The short version

  • Publish content two to three months before the season it serves, and launch ads two to six weeks before.
  • Update Google Business Profile hours before every state holiday, and have a plan for weather closures from June through November.
  • Hawaii does not change clocks; mainland ad accounts shift by an hour every March and November.
  • Resident and visitor businesses run on different calendars. Use the planner to see yours.

Mainland marketing calendars are built around snow, back-to-school in September and Thanksgiving travel. Hawaii runs on a different clock. Schools start in early August. Visitor seasons follow mainland and international vacations. Whale season, winter surf and a string of state holidays and cultural events shape what people search for and when. And the one day everyone forgets, the day mainland clocks change, quietly shifts every ad schedule run from a mainland account.

This calendar maps the Hawaii year to what a local business should be publishing, promoting and budgeting each month. Event dates move from year to year, so always confirm with the organizer before you build a campaign around one.

The one rule: work two months ahead

Search content takes time to be found and trusted, and trip planners research long before they travel. That creates a simple rule of thumb: publish for a season two to three months before it starts, and switch on paid campaigns two to six weeks before. A summer page published in June is competing with pages that have been ranking since March.

Resident businesses have shorter windows. People look for a plumber the day the pipe leaks. But seasonal needs such as back-to-school, hurricane preparation and holiday gifts are still researched ahead of time, and the businesses that appear first tend to win.

Every month, all year

  • Reviews: ask every happy customer, and ask them to mention the service and the town. Reviews that read like real stories help people and AI assistants alike.
  • Profile accuracy: hours, special hours, photos and services on your Google Business Profile should never be more than a month out of date.
  • Search terms: if you run Google Ads, review the searches you paid for and block the ones that will never buy.
  • One useful page: publish or meaningfully improve at least one page a month that answers a real customer question.

The time-zone trap

Hawaii stays on Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time all year. Most of the mainland moves its clocks forward in March and back in November. Google Ads schedules run on your ad account's time zone, so an account set to Pacific or Eastern time runs your "8 to 5" hours early, and the gap changes twice a year. Our Hawaii ad schedule converter tells you exactly what to enter for any date.

The Central Pacific hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30. Have a plan for updating your website and Google Business Profile quickly if you need to close or change hours.

When do Hawaii schools start?

Hawaii public schools typically begin in early August, earlier than much of the mainland, so back-to-school promotions should launch in July.
